More hobby progress.

Hi guys, Well it's not be the weather for it lately in sunny Leeds but I have been slowly working on my breachers, not a lot but getting there.....no really i am.

What i have done is to add a few more parts to the Moritat aka "Gunslinger", Just a few bits but i think it all adds to the look and feel of the miniature, So then just the Iron Skull to the left shoulder pad and some small packs and grenades around the Moritats waist, also got the base coat down, Time for the fun stuff to start now.

I have shock horror finished all their bases though, That's for the twenty Breachers and one Moritat base (front right), As always with these wasteland bases I'm very happy with the look, So easy to do....bit of dry brushing and weathering powders job done, I've been asked on Face Book how i paint them so will do a tutorial soon in case anyone else is interested....keeps the blog ticking anyhow which is always good.

So then that's it for now, Looking forward to the Forge World event next month and are really hoping that we see Adeptus Titanicus, not holding my breath though but are saving my penny's.

Happy painting guys.

WIP: IW's Deredeo Patten Dreadnought part 2.

Hi guys, Well it's the 8th of Jan so i should really get my ass into gear and crack on, Christmas and New Year have well and truly gone so it's time for some modelling.

Very happy with these heavy Lascannons from Forge World.

I was thinking of magnetizing the main guns but so many ends to play with and then getting them straight afterwards seemed too much like hard work, Limited time on earth and all that.

I've tried to do a little work on the helmet like i did with the Leviathans, Not 100% sure about it but I'm sticking so will wait and see how it looks when it's all painted up.

Did a bit on the Launchers mast, It's the end of a FW snipers rifle and a length of paper clip.

I've used some parts from a GW Imp Knight for my base detail along with a few skulls, looking forward to painting it...love making bases.

Some pic's of the miniature on base all be it half built.

WIP: Iron Warrior Contemptor No2.

Well guys though I would show you a bit of progress of my second Iron Warriors Contemptor.

Most of the hard work is done, soaking of the resin (sometimes for days, does my head in) posing and gluing together, base, guns, basecoats etc all that stuff finished just the colouring in to go now.....the best bit!

Very happy with the pose of this monster, I see the Dread slowly walking down some narrow war torn street putting holes in things left and right as he goes, all grim dark thoughts hear folks.

I did his base a while ago and can't wait to get the fella stuck to it, it's the one on the left the other was for my Leviathan.

Anyway guys should have this mini done soon... famous last words may take six months if you know me, I am a tad lazy ;)

Iron Warriors: Iron Circle Bases.

Hi guys, well it seems a little strange to put up a post just to show off these four bases but it's my blog lol plus I'm over the moon with how they turned out.

The Iron Circle miniatures are quite large at the side of  Perturabo (by the way the boss man is on my bench!! but I wont be using that massive base for him, got it earmarked for something else) so instead of building the base up with cork as I have in the past with my other IW minis I've kept it as level as I could to the blank base by just adding some thin double diamond plastic sheet (1:24 G-scale) then modelling some detail around it to give it that war torn battlefield look.

Interesting before photo of the bases, You can see all the bits n bobs I've used ...the deck plate as mentioned, a bit off a GW building set, sand, small stones and cork! where would I be without cork the stuffs great as is Vallejo red oxid paste.

Iron Warriors: Iron Circle ...built x4.

Hi guys well it's been a while since my vist to Warhammer Fest and longer before I got cracking with these lovely miniatures ...shame on me.

Anyhow I've found a little time of late to knock these four fellas together and even got a bit of paint on one of them ......shocker!!, These minis where a joy to build with no trouble at all, I pinned the hammers because i thought they would snap off otherwise and left the shields off to paint separate.

So here are the Battle-Automata all built plus did a little extra detail on the bases.

Interesting comparison photo between the base coated mini right and finished metal look mini left.

WIP: Iron Warriors Tac Squads.

Hi guys, Just a short post today bringing you up to speed with progress on my two Tac Squads for the Iron Warriors project.

I'm very happy with how these Tac Marines are turning out, I've done the odd kit-bash and conversion just to make things a little different but mostly kept them standard out of the box.

Although all the Marines have Chevrons I've purposely kept them to a minimum so they don't overwhelm the silver and black colour scheme placing them in places such as knee pads shin plates and chest areas.

Horus Heresy Iron Warriors don't really need Vexillas as they re-group from gun fire no matter what the casualties but I think they look great and are very iconic so why not, Again I've used things laying around in this build as the banners were made from old coffee cup lids.

For the two Tac Sergeants I've used Deathguard and Sons of horus torsos again just to mix things up a tad, Really happy with the kit-bashed power weapon on the first sarg, The Mech hand is from a 40k Servitor and the weapon is a FW Power Axe.

Getting some paint on these mini's now to finish off the two squads.

Also got the last of the bases done including the ten i need for my Plasma support squad.

WIP: Iron Warriors Leviathan.

Wow it seems such a long time since I last posted on my blog, Anyway fellas I've been working on this Leviathan and the rest of my Iron Warriors project on and off for weeks now but nearly there with the big guy apart from the chest weapons and arms.

I've magnetized the arms so I can change the weapon load out if and when I feel the need, there's four arm's to paint up that I already own and the as yet not released Melta Lance which I'll buy once on sale.

So here he is minus the arms, I'm pretty Happy with it so far I've used some of the FW Iron Warriors transfers on this miniature and lots of small strips of plastic/rivets to give him the look.

A couple of pic's of the base in various stages, The one to the left will be for my second Contemptor.

A few different stages that the miniature goes through before being placed on the base.

Rebasing Techmarine from 25 to 32mm.

So then guys as I look at some of my old Scythes miniatures I feel that binning them all would be heartbreaking for me given the time effort and expense I've put in and besides some of them I still actually like, take my Techmarine Thunderfire Cannon combo, I spent a whole day putting that dam cannon together and painting it (if I remember right around eleven hours of effort) as for the Tech Kit-bash.... well I was an still am over the moon with how it turned out even more so as it's my first machine god loving mother.

And so in a moment of madness I  grabbed the Tech and simply snapped it off the base (super glue ain't that super guys), now I don't recommend this as a good idea as this could of gone horribly wrong but I feet confident because of the Tech's FW one piece torso and just went for it.

Just a matter of sanding off a bit of excess dried glue (thanks for the emery boards Jules) drill a couple of holes on the underside of the feet, pop in a couple of pins, trim and re-glue to the new 32mm base, job done!.

Well I'm chuffed!, looks cool on the new base and I've got to say the the new size works really well for marines, I may add a wasteland tuft or a length a barbed wire to the base for a little extra interest I'll see.

40k Urban Bases.

Hi guys so I've decided on these Urban bases for my new Scythes force they are pretty simple to paint and easy to replicate in large numbers when I feel the need to paint more squads, but think they are effective never the less.

As you can see I've kept it quite plain on these Tactical Marine bases only adding the odd bit of battle field debris, I'll probably go more to town on the Terminator bases and full on with the flyer ovals well that's if I keep to the list I've drawn up, I have a habit of tweaking the list see.

Scythes base design.....take two.

Hi guys well it's a take two on the old bases I've gone slightly lighter with this one thinking it will achieve a better contrast between miniature and base.

Same method really, three greys drybrushed up (all be them lighter) from a black basecoat with two washes and two powders added (trying to keep them simple), anyhow take a look for yourself guys.

New style bases for my Scythes.

Hi guys, well then with some new looking Scythes on the horizon I think its only fitting that I should spruce up their bases and so I'm around 90% sure I'll be opting for the old urban decay rubble type bases with the odd bit of rusty iron and battlefield debris thrown in for good measure.

I'm sad to see the Martian bases go but I think sometimes a change is good an it's kind of got me re-energized for the project so it's all good.

So then on to the test piece, it's your standard 28mm GW base that I've used for this but I will say now that all my new Scythes will be mounted on the new 32mm bases (just ordered a shed load of them from GW), I'm using the new size for two reasons...one being that it gives you more scope for modelling and the second is to kind of future proof them to a degree as I hear that when the current stock of marines sell all new boxes will be packaged with the new size bases.

Anyhow guys that's enough base size talk on with the pic's.

As I say it's just a little test piece, it's basically black basecoat drybrushed up with increasingly lighter shades of grey (not fifty) with a couple of washes added and a little weathering powder, not so sure about the colour of that pipe as it stands out a little too much for my liking but this is the type of thing I'm aiming for, hope you like it.

Display Base.

Display base for my Dreadnought....

Hi guys, well I've completed the display base for my newly painted Venerable Dreadnought and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Its the first time I attempted something like this and hopefully it will stand me in good stead when I up size to something larger like a tile maybe.
Anyhow guys here's a few pics with brief explanations as to how I built it, as always click pics for enlargement.

First off I bought a wooden display base off ebay, not too expensive £15 I think.

I then cut out a slightly smaller piece of plastic card and glued it to the base with PVA.
I used cork coasters from my local hobby shop to build up the terrain slightly, I then carefully cut out three small circles where I wanted the mini's to go then stuck all the cork down with PVA.

I stuck various bits of interest to the base, half a Rhino door (the other half's on the Dread base), a piece of  resin I kept from a FW model and a skeleton.

Green stuff was used to fill the gaps between coasters and to push up against various terrain to represent slight sand drifts this is more obvious when the base is sprayed with primer.

I added sand and small rocks stuck down with PVA.

The martian trees were made by twisting a couple of paperclips together to the required shape then I rolled out a few green stuff sausages and squeezed them around the wire and pricked them with a tooth pick for texture.

After it had set I rolled out tinner strings of green stuff and wrapped it round each branch to add further interest.

To make the plaque I glued two pieces of plastic card together, one smaller than the other, and held them in clamps while it dried.

I used a length of tape to force a curve while it dried.

I used elastic bands to hold the plaque in place while the glue dried.

Just like the icon's on my other Scythes models I made my own water slide transfer for the plaque, I'm happy with how it turned out.
