40k Kit-Bash...Captain Romonos.

Well guys I've decided in 2015 I'm going to build and paint a new Scythes of the Emperor 1850pt army for general play and also for my second attempt at Armies on Parade, Yep thats right I'm planning it already!.

Anyway being as impatient as I am I've already started hacking away at the list, so first up a HQ kit-bash for the new army, I just love kitbashing mini's and Space Marines lend themselves to this art in a big way with what feels like an infinite choice of different combinations.

The model that I've built is Captain Romonos second only to Chapter Master Thrasius and Commander of Scythes first (and only) Battle Company, his stat line is the same as Cato Sicarius of the Ultramarines.

 

Styling wise I wanted Captain Romonos to look uncluttered but still have the feel of authority about him, given that the character model wears Artificer Armour and the Scythes scavenging shenanigans I've gone ahead and used the Forge World Legion Champion body but carefully removed the torso and added an Iron Hands MKIII one in its place, I think this gives the impression of  a mish mash of armour styles but also one of quality.

I chose this Power Sword as I've been wanting to use this part for a while (it's from the "Assault on Black Reach" box set)  I love it's simple unfussy shape and think it fits right into the chapter and also the character of the miniature itself.

The helmet is a Forge World part from a Destroyer Squad, the pack is off a Blood Angel Death Company sprue, the base detail which I've added to slightly and the shoulder plates cybernetic arm and plasma pistol are all Forge World parts, incidentally don't forget to add the gun hilt when gluing your pistols to arms/hands, little details and all that. I've also added a couple of grenades around the back of the mini and are considering sticking the Imperial Laurel to one of  his shoulder plates.

Anyway guys I thought I would show you a photo of all the component parts before its stuck together, as you can see I've used five pins on the model, two on both the base and torso and one on the power sword wrist area.

I'm looking forward to cracking on with this mini and will post up picks when its finished.

Well guys I've painted this fella up quick time and I quite like it, here's some pictures of my second Scythes HQ character.

Scythes Chaplain............
Demetrios now finds him self to be the head Chaplain for the Scythes of the Emperor Chapter after the demise of first Chaplain Segas at Sotha's last stand before the withdrawal, Demetrios is a troubled soul who is known to be aggressive and hateful, it is said that he carries an "ever present threat of violence" and is always the first marine in any fray, he is very well respected by the Scythes first company.

Hi guys this kit bash chaplain will be my second Scythes HQ model i'll paint and I cant wait, I love the look of him, to me he looks almost gladiatorial with his right shoulder armour that has the extra little plate also the helmet fits perfect for this look in my opinion, its mostly forge world parts with a few GW bits.
Anyhow fellas here's a picture before its painted, hope you like it as much as me.

First 40k HQ model painted.........
At last I've got my first HQ Scythes model painted, its a mish mash of various different kits (kit bashed as they say), its good how you can do this with space marines you can truly make something unique and personal.

I've gone for a slightly darker blue which I think fits better with the black of the Scythes, anyhow guys im happy with it and here's a few pictures to look at.

Chief Librarian Tormal was the last of his kind to survive the Tyrannic war's that decimated the Scythes of the Emperor chapter and their home world Sotha, Tormal is one of only a few last remaining senior officer's that still proudly serve the Scythes and Chapter Master Thrasius.

I will be using this character as my first HQ choice in a progressive campaign im about to start at my local games club, it starts at 500 pts and increases 250 pts every month until 1750 pts is achieved, I hope to bring you the painted 500pts force soon and also maybe an update or two on my progress during the campaign...............

Chapter Master Thrasius Kit Bash.

Hi guys its been a long time since I've made any headway into my Scythes 40k army, shame on me anyhow I can tell you there's a couple of units near completion so more on those latter, however for this post im concentrating on their Chapter Master "Thrasius".

Thrasius was the commander of the third company before the onslaught of hive fleet Kracken and was considered by Thorcyra (the scythes first chapter master) to be the most level headed and consummate strategist that the Scythes had to offer although on occasion his rage did descend and all those that have laid in his path have paid the ultimate price, it was in fact he and Thrasius that planned the near impossible evacuation of Giants Coffin (a large rocky outcrop on deathworld Miral) with help from the returning Battle Barge "Honours Might".

And so Thrasius became the Scythes second Chapter Master, Thorcyra (now believed dead) stayed behind on Miral fighting a rear guard action along with his honour guard and numerous sternguard units with enough ammunition to serve a chapter twice over, all so it was possible for a hundred plus Scythes to break through on thunderhawks to the newly named battle barge "Heart of Sotha" to carry the fight and rebuild the chapter .............

So to the weapons, well, taking into account the relatively new Chapter status of the Scythes i'm thinking weapons and such that could be made by techmarines/master of the forge on board the heart of sotha, and so have modelled an example of what could be Thrasius with his weapons set up............

Firstly a chainsword, not a huge leap to assume a forge master couldn't make a larger faster sharper version of such a brutal close combat weapon and the same can be said for his bolter and so I've armed him with the Teeth of terra and Primarch's Wrath.
Also his armour, with all the boarding actions on various hulks and abandoned ships its not beyond possible that various suits of armour could not of been found and amalgamated in to one, so again I've made the leap and given him the Armour Indomitus, along with Digital weapons and the rest of the standard Chapter Masters personal kit he costs 255 points, although Aritficer armour could be used to save 40 points on occasion.
