Open Day Greatness Jan 2017: Legio Custodes.

Hi guys, Looks like the old bank accounts going to take a knock over the next few months.

Some beautiful miniatures on show.

Loving these Custodes Contemptors with all their weapon options.

Seems we have a name for the weapons on the Pallas Grav-Attack (which are fielded as squadrons if you so wish) and Coronus Grav-Carrier and that's the Blaze Cannon.

SHOWCASE: Second Iron Warriors Contemptor.

Hi guys, well at long last I've built and painted the second Contemptor, Loving the pose of this fella and fits in nicely with the two other Dreads that I've painted so far.

As with the last Contemptor I've armed him with two Kheres Assault Cannons modeled out of FW aircraft Punisher Cannons.

I'm more happy with the yellow on this mini compared to the fist Contemptor but hey it's a learning process and to be honest it's not that noticeable.

Photo of them both together, Thinking of something different to complete the talon....watch this space.

WIP: Iron Warrior Contemptor No2.

Well guys though I would show you a bit of progress of my second Iron Warriors Contemptor.

Most of the hard work is done, soaking of the resin (sometimes for days, does my head in) posing and gluing together, base, guns, basecoats etc all that stuff finished just the colouring in to go now.....the best bit!

Very happy with the pose of this monster, I see the Dread slowly walking down some narrow war torn street putting holes in things left and right as he goes, all grim dark thoughts hear folks.

I did his base a while ago and can't wait to get the fella stuck to it, it's the one on the left the other was for my Leviathan.

Anyway guys should have this mini done soon... famous last words may take six months if you know me, I am a tad lazy ;)

SHOWCASE: Iron Warriors Contemptor Dreadnought.

Right then guys time for all out Awesomeness!, This is the first of my three Iron Warriors Contemptors that I've painted with plans to paint the other two to complete the talon, Definitely going to make and paint another Kheres Assault Cannon Dread but not so sure about the third.

It's the first time that I've used Ink's through the airbrush and think it's worked out pretty good on the Assault Cannons.

A rear view and close up on those smoke stacks...really happy how they have turned out.

I've experimented on a lot of different base types for this project and glad I did so as I finally painted something that I'm really happy with, I think the dark earth and red tones of the weathering powders  complement the Iron Warriors armour perfectly also very happy with the spent shells and barbed wire think it adds a little more interest to the base.

On with the other two.

WIP: Iron Warriors Contemptor Dreadnought.

Hi guys just a little update on the Contemptor, Really liking this miniature so much so that I'm craving a few more.

Still got a bit to do as you can see but I'm liking it so far guys, The Assault Cannons are up next after I've sorted some barbed wire for the base.

I used two transfers from the new Forge World Iron Warriors sheet and one from an old Imp Guard sheet.

Really happy with how the Iron colour worked out on this lager model, I was a little bit nervous as I've only painted Tactical Marines thus far using this technique and wondered if it would work so well up scaling to the larger miniatures.

I used an idea that I found in one of the Forge World Masterclass books for the exhaust pipes, It's really easy to follow and I think it looks so effective, For this project I will be doing all the pipes this way whether they are on Tanks or Dreads.

Iron Warriors: Contemptor, Love these Cannons.

Hey up guys I've only gone and done it...gone and bought my first Contemptor Dreadnought and it's an awesome bit of kit, Can't tell you why it took me so long to buy one of these beauties but I think I'm spoilt now as I don't think I'll be going back to the old 40k Dread any time soon, It's that good!.

The kit is so poseable to the point that I found it a little daunting at first, I tried to make the model look as natural as I could and think I've done quite a good job of it.

I've opted for Kheres Pattern Assault Cannons all be it with a little twist with the weapons, For the conversion I used Punisher Cannons from Forge World instead of the standard barrels that came with the kit and think they look the business.

I magnetized both arms with 4 by 2 mm magnets in case I want to change the weapons at any point, Also bought these twin-linked Autocannons for longer range shenanigans.

Plan is to build and paint three of these, all magnetized with a selection of different weapon arms.
