Armies on Parade: 2016.

Hi guys, Are any of you partaking in this years Armies on Parade.

I missed out last year due to family holiday but did attend the event the year before in 2014, It was my first time at AoP and I left things to the last minute so didn't have many miniatures on the tile but it was a great day down at Leeds GW (Warhammer).

This was the effort back in 2014 my much loved 40k Scythes of the Emperor on martian bases and tile, Never did get that martian sand to look right and the board is pretty sparse, If i do take part i hope that my next effort will look lots better plus it gives me inspiration to sort out all those half finished units.

Well fellas there's around ten weeks if your up for it, Good luck.

    1. If i enter this year Sebastian it wont be Scythes sorry, On a side note your Scythes were the ones that inspired me to start the hobby in the first place, your a Legend and your Scythes miniatures are awesome.

Was thinking of one day maybe painting up the 60 Betrayal at Calth marines i have as the Ultramarines 199th, They were based on Sotha during the Horus Heresy and became the Scythes of the Emperor...would be a great nod to were i started from.

    2. Really? Wow, thank you Jamie. :)

I really like the 199th idea; just reading the novel now actually. Top idea and wth all the kits, a great time to start.

    3. Yeah Sebastian that Librarian tipped it for me.

You will have to tell me the name of that novel your reading, may buy it for after I've finished Gav Thorpes new book.

  2. Will be showcasing the Dark Angels and all I've been doing over the last 12 months. A bit hesitant this year given the bitchiness of my local GW because the nids were displayed three years on the trot, like nothing had been added over that period of time!

    1. Crikey Dave you have been adding to that project for years what dont he get about that?!?.

My GW manager is a tad off put about HH miniatures in general he dosen't like that much talk about them in shop to the point that he once said that if i brought HH miniatures to armies on parade i wouldn't win, Clearly joking but off putting all the same...dont really want to put the effort in if you know what i mean, Think its because his sales may dive if his regulars get too much of a sniff ...anyhow I may or maynot be building something I'll have to see, Good luck with yours though Dave.

    2. Luckily it wasn't the manager, in fact she'd checked the previous year with HQ whether it was OK to bring an army back. At that stage it made sense I'd won aginst no competition why wouldn't I come back to see if I won on merit or by default. There's also 'defending your title'. It was actually one of the regulars who posted on one of the other entrants Facebook page they'd be 'p1$$ed off if the nids won because they'd been there three times'. I tried to explain my reasoning but he wasn't having any of it, typical troll behaviour, and just made me feel a bit crap really. I just want to display

I understand the concern of your manager but given how lax the rules are [it only has to fit in 2'x2', vertically it can be any size!] I don't understand how he could tell you what you can/can't bring. And with HH being far more entwined in 40k I'd just do it anyway. It may not benefit him directly but he can certainly sell around it and just point them to Betrayal at Calth as a starting point for folk to get into HH!

    3. Always harder to defend a title Dave so look out.

In all seriousness though your adding to a project with different miniatures, maybe some same i dont know but yeah you want to show off your work with pride as do i, All power to you Dave....reject the trolls views i say.

I'm with you in that i understand the managers concerns as well, It just left a bad taste if you know what i mean and after all we want to win yes, Think I'll give it a blast using all those GW building I've bought over the years from his shop in an attempt to appease him, Do you think that will work lol.
